Creation

  • Have a relationship with God that is intimate and satisfying.
  • Have a solid understanding from the Bible of who God is and what he is like.

Rebellion

  • Confess sin as a common part of their lives, both in prayer and in relationships.
  • Can examine an obvious sin to find its roots in a lie about God and failure to worship God.

Atonement

  • Hold to reformed soteriology.
  • Are able to explain the power and purposes of the gospel.

Grace

  • Are able to explain how the power and purposes of the gospel would work out in real life situations (i.e. counseling someone who struggles with pornography; teaching on work and rest as gospel).
  • Can give examples of how the gospel is affecting their life and ministry.
  • Are motivated by love for God rather than duty, a need to prove themselves, fear of punishment, etc.

Faith

  • Told their story in the interview, including family of origin and factors shaping who they are and what they believe.
  • Reveal gospel understanding as they describe their journey of faith.
  • Reveal through their journey of faith that they trust and obey God during tough times.

Spirit

  • Understand the role of the Holy Spirit in their life and leadership.
  • Practice “walking with the Spirit” daily.
  • Demonstrate the fruit of the Spirit in daily life.
  • Have a plan to multiply an understanding and the passion and practice of”walking in the Spirit” in their MC.
  • Are not cessationist.
  • Are charismatics, not pentecostals (believe in the gifts of the Spirit, but no second baptism of the Spirit or tongues as the evidence of the Spirit).
  • Understand the role of prayer.
  • Are intentional in prayer. (How? When? For what?)
  • Have a plan to multiply an understanding and passion for prayer in their MC.

Family

  • [Identity in Christ] Are able to articulate their new identity in Christ and how this is possible through the gospel.
  • [Identity in Christ] Have a grasp on how to lead people to live out their identity in everyday rhythms.
  • [Identity in Christ] Can give examples of how they are living out the gospel identity and rhythms.
  • The husband leads his home in the area of:
    • Spiritual growth (prayer, study of scripture/the story, stewardship, etc.);
    • Management of household;
    • Discipline of children; and
    • Ministry as a family.
  • The wife is partnering with her husband through:
    • Submission to his leadership;
    • Assisting him in his duties;
    • Caring for her husband and children; and
    • Involvement in ministry.
  • Have a God-honoring, healthy sex life. (Does each partner give themselves fully to satisfy the other? Are they faithful to each other with their thoughts, eyes, body, etc.?)
  • Hold to a complementarian view of gender roles and are able to explain its Biblical basis.
  • Hold to the plurality of elders as biblical church leadership and are able to articulate Soma’s leadership structure.
  • Affirm that “first among equals” applies to role (i.e. prophet, priest, king), not position.

Missionaries

  • Can clearly identify their sense of calling and the people or place to which they are on mission.
  • Have the skills of contextualizing the gospel. (Gospel barriers; gospel doors; idolatry of the culture; awareness of how their personal culture can be an impediment.)
  • Can explain how they are on mission and what would they change to be more effective on mission.
  • Have a Biblical understanding of the mission of the church (sent to make disciples of all nations).
  • Can articulate gospel identities (people).
  • Can articulate gospel rhythms (practices).
  • Demonstrate gospel identities and rhythms in how they lead a missional community.
  • Understand the discipleship process.
  • Can give examples of living out the discipleship process (current or past).
  • Have a plan for multiplying that vision for discipleship in their MC.

Servants

  • Consider everything they have (possessions, time, energy, talents) as from God and for his purposes.
  • Can show how they steward their finances. (If they have a budget, how is it set up? Percentages?)
  • Would be willing to submit their personal finances if they need help.
  • Give in a consistent and generous pattern.
  • Are able to lead/teach others in a biblical pattern of giving.
  • Go out of their way to show to love to others in tangible ways.

Learners

  • Are being formed/transformed spiritually...
  • Can identify what helps them in their spiritual growth.
  • Are engaged in practices which contribute to their growth in faith and their ministry effectiveness.
  • Can identify what areas of their spiritual development are a struggle for them.
  • Can identify their biggest areas of growth in that last year.
  • Can identify what they have been learning lately and how they would teach someone that.
  • Can explain the last thing they taught someone and how.
  • Have read the Bible through and been through the Story.
  • Are prepared to take people through the story.
  • Are able to teach someone to study the Bible.

Restoration

  • Express an “already, not yet” understanding of the kingdom of God.
  • Affirm Jesus’ return is necessary for the consummation of the kingdom of God.
